Pranking on Halloween Night

It was close to six on Thursday evening and I was sitting in my livingroom waiting on my oldest brother, Nate to drop his son, Dylan off. I had promised to take him trick-or-treating so Nate could go back to the office and work late. We were going to go around the neighborhood with my best friend, Jessica and her little sisters, Fallon and Courtney. It was going to be a lot of fun. My other brother, Zack was going to be out of town over the weekend touring colleges so I had a long weekend coming.

I heard a horn beep, so I quickly hurried to the front porch and watched as Nate’s gray colored minivan pulled into the driveway. Dylan got out and then slammed the door shut behind him.

“Sorry, Dad!” Dylan called out.

“It’s okay, Buddy.” Nate said. “Thanks for doing this, Meg!”

“You’re welcome, Nate!” I replied as he backed out onto the street. He pulled away and drove off down the street.

I let my nephew inside and then let him wait inside for Jess and the twins. Yes they are identical twins. Both are the same age as Dylan, which is nine. They are in fourth grade at Coral Springs Elementary School.

Jess and the twins arrived not long after 6:30 so we left from my front porch. We had decided ahead of time to just walk since it was warm that night. We started from my house. Each of the kids grabbed a large size candy bar and then we were off. I made sure the rest of the candy was left in a box on the front porch for the other trick-or-treaters.

We went to each house, letting the kids go up to the door on their own. At Jess’s house, we each got to come inside for cookies and punch. For me, Brian(Jess’s stepbrother) gave me a bottle of water and a few celery sticks. I smiled and said, “Thanks, Brian.”

“You’re welcome, Meg.” He said. He then offered to take us the rest of the way around the neighborhood and then over to the next one around so the kids could get more candy.

We were quick to agree. By the time we had finished, the kids had full bags of candy. All three had fallen asleep on the trip back. They dropped the twins off first and then took me home.

Unfortunately, what I saw on my front porch did not make me happy. I saw three smashed pumpkins, the windows on the first floor were soaped, and two of our garage windows were shattered. I sighed when I saw this damage. “Dad is going to freak when he sees this on Sunday.” I said. I sounded scared.

Brian looked angry. “Go pack a bag for yourself. I’ll talk to my parents. You can stay with us tonight. Call Nate from my house and ask him to pick him up there.”

I nodded and ran inside. I quickly hurried up to my room and grabbed some clothes, my phone charger, my laptop, and toiletries. I then hurried back to Brian’s vehicle. “I’ll come back tomorrow during the day to start cleaning it up.” I said.

“Jess and I will come with you to help clean it up.” Brian said with a nod. He then pulled out onto the street and we drove around the corner to their home. It was an even larger house than ours but also a mansion.

Brian and Jess’s parents insisted I stay there over the weekend in a guestroom.

Nate was quick to agree with Brian and his parents on me staying there at the Nichols Home until Dad returns from his trip. I called him to let him know we were there. He also asked if we were okay. I said yes we were fine.

Finally that afternoon, I gathered Jess, Brian, and Brian’s dad Josh and asked if they’d help me trap whomever was doing all of these pranks. I pretty much had it figured out it was one of my classmates, but I had no idea who it was exactly. They did each agree to help me.

I nodded and began explaining my plan. It could be done that night. We had gone to school that day and let everyone know that my dad was out of town still. One of Shauna’s pals, Marci Lopez heard this and along with Shauna and Chelsea, they set up an impromptu party which they would be throwing at my house that night. I would be staying at Jess’s house.

Josh and Brian had planned a little scheme of their own to teach those kids a lesson. Josh called a police friend of his and mentioned about the pranks that I have been a victim of recently and he agreed it needed to end. It had been set up that Josh would have the Officer’s number on speed dial the moment they showed up at my home.

They showed up close to 7:30 that night complete with music, food, and fancy lights.

He quickly called the police when he saw the first vehicle. He then called for me. He had known it would be the prankster who would show up first.

I walked over to my house with Josh, Brian, and Jess and approached the person. It turned out to be Chelsea. I shook my head and said, “I should have known it was you behind all of the pranks.” I sighed and then added, “The police are on the way.”

Josh nodded, seeing Chelsea’s reaction. “By the way, you owe Jessica’s dad $104 for the broken windows.” He informed her.

She growled in anger and nodded. “Yes, Sir.” She said.

Along with paying for the window, she also was given Community Service and had to apologize to me and my family for all of the pranks.

My dad came back that night and everything got back to normal.
